On 18th October 2022 the Ipswich Corn Exchange plays host to an evening with one of Football’s most famous and much loved characters Paul Merson.
In a BBC documentary aired in 2011 Paul explained in the film how he was still in the grip of addiction. "I've been addicted to alcohol and cocaine, but by far the most destructive and the only one I'm still struggling with today is gambling," he said.
On the night Paul will talk openly about his battles with addiction and depression throughout his hugely successful career both on and off the pitch. Paul made 425 appearances for the Gunners in a career that spanned 12 years scoring 99 goals. Nicknamed ‘The Magic Man’, Paul went on to play for Middlesbrough, Aston Villa, Portsmouth and Walsall. Paul is now better known for his work on SKY TV as a presenter of the Fantasy Football show and a regular on Saturday afternoons as part of SKY Sports Soccer Saturday football coverage, where he brings his own style of punditry to the screen.
Host for the evening is Perry Groves, a former Arsenal colleague of Paul, who made 203 appearances for Arsenal scoring 28 goals. Paul and Perry make a fascinating double act for what promises to be a very entertaining night out.
