We Will Be Back!
We are looking forward to reopening Regent Theatre as soon as it’s safe to do so and having its great shows return to Ipswich. We will be welcoming both the shows that have been postponed, the ticket-holders waiting for these performances as well as some great new events – it will be worth the wait!
The Council does have to save money though, so in its latest budget proposals to cope with the financial impact of the pandemic, it is proposing to change the way that tickets can be bought. Rather than being able to visit the Regent to buy tickets you’ll need to do it over the phone or online. We are keen to get going. All the staff – from the front-of-house staff to all those making the performances tip-top, such as lighting and sound, are all ready, but we need to wait until it is safe to start again – and then there will be no stopping us!
Is the Regent Theatre closing permanently?
There is not yet a confirmed date for when the Regent Theatre can reopen fully. We continue to follow government guidelines to ensure the safety of our staff and the public. Shows continue to be programmed for future dates and we are working with our promoters to bring the very best shows available to our customers, as and when restrictions allow.
I have paid for tickets, what is happening?
If you have tickets for a future show that gets postponed because of the restrictions we will contact you and provide you with the following options:
- Transfer ticket to the new proposed date
- Transfer tickets to a different show
- Receive a credit voucher, for the full value of the tickets to redeem for a future show.
- Receive a full refund
How are we using the Culture Recovery Fund grant – from the government, via Arts Council England?
The purpose of the Cultural Recovery Fund grant, administered by Arts Council England, is to ensure that venues, such as the Regent Theatre, can plan to recover from the period of closure, enforced by the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. This grant is being used to cover building costs and pay the wages of many of the Theatre’s staff – so that we retain the expertise and ability to reopen quickly when the restrictions allow.
Will you be re-opening with socially distant performances?
We don’t yet know when social distancing and Coronavirus restrictions will be lifted and, unfortunately, most performances are not possible with a reduced socially-distant audience.
We are exploring options to see if we can offer live entertainment in some capacity, but this is dependent on several factors, including government guidance.
As an alternative, we are offering some live-streamed events to our customers which continue to be announced weekly and which are viewed from home.
